CHQ Authors Convening: Mary Biddinger and Director of Literary Arts Sony Ton-Aime

As wordsmiths, poets invent ways of seeing and understanding the world through the use of language. Now more than ever, we need new metaphors to make this new normal familiar and livable. At 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30, poet Mary Biddinger will join Director of Literary Arts Sony Ton-Aime in the first installment of the CHQ Authors Convening to discuss the role of poetry and poets during pandemics — both throughout history and in this time of COVID-19. They will also talk about her Chautauqua Writers' Center workshop this summer, "Writing Beyond the Bruise."

Biddinger is the author of six full-length poetry collections, including a new book of prose poems, Partial Genius (Black Lawrence Press, 2019). She has received awards from the Ohio Arts Council, the Cleveland Arts Prize, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Biddinger is professor and assistant chair of English at the University of Akron, where she is poetry editor at the University of Akron Press.

Vice President and Emily and Richard Smucker Chair for Education Matt Ewalt will be on hand throughout the conversation to introduce Biddinger and Ton-Aime and moderate the Q-and-A portion of the chat.
