Chautauqua's Heart: A History of the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle (Paperback)
Description
Before university and college extension courses, before the Book of the Month Club and Oprah's Book Club, before educational television, the Internet, and MOOC's -- there was the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle (CLSC).
Designed to give busy adults the chance to have a college student's outlook on life, this correspondence course evolved into a required reading program with all the pomp and circumstance of a college graduation. The CLSC reached people in small-town America and around the world. In 2018, the CLSC will celebrate its 140th anniversary as it continues to provide an opportunity for life-long learning and companionship in a group committed to intellectual growth at any age.
